"Chop your own wood and you will warm yourself twice"Kyle and I were drawn to the old Victorian charm of 212, which inevitably came hand in hand with A LOT of work. We knew that this renovation project was going to be incredibly challenging and require muscle, time, and learning; but we also knew that we could do this and that it would be worth it in the end. We both grew up with the philosophy that if you want something, you need to work for it. Even with this mindset, neither of us could have forecasted just how much this house would test us. Kyle is in auto body and has his own side business in photography. He has mechanical know-how, as well as the creativity needed in this endeavour. I am a teacher, and while I do not have the expertise in handy work, I have been able to bring my organization and research skills to the table. While you don't need to like history to own an old house, I believe that it is an added bonus if you do, and makes for a more interesting experience during the renovation. That was one of the reasons why I started this blog :). Together, Kyle and I make for a pretty great renovating team. We may be green, but we have an end goal and the determination to achieve it. |
